NYSEG Awards $425,000 in Grants to BonaDent for New Seneca Falls Facility
NYSEG and RG&E Investing Nearly $40 Million in Growing Businesses Through 2013

Rochester, NY – NYSEG, a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, today presented $425,000 in economic development grants to BonaDent Dental Laboratories for utility infrastructure investments that are part of the company’s new $11 million, 83,000-square-foot production plant and corporate headquarters in the Town of Seneca Falls. BonaDent, an independently-owned and operated full-service dental lab now in its fourth generation of ownership under the Bonafiglia family, will retain 138 jobs and expects to create 90 new jobs at the site.

"BonaDent is a homegrown success story, and NYSEG is pleased to support the company’s continued growth and the benefits it brings to the area,” said Mark S. Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E. “This project is a prime example of why we have economic development grant programs – the programs are excellent catalysts for capital investment that protects and creates jobs in upstate New York.”

“BonaDent’s expansion in Seneca Falls, creating 90 new jobs right here in our community, is a tremendous boost to our local economy,” said Senator Michael Nozzolio. “Many should be thanked for their hard work to make this project a reality, including the Seneca County IDA and Bob Aronson, the Town of Seneca Falls, all of our local town and county supervisors, the Empire State Development Corporation, NYSEG, and especially Ange, Bruce and the entire Bonafiglia Family. I was pleased to work with all of these individuals and organizations to help continue Bonadent’s legacy right here in Seneca County.”

Empire State Development (ESD) was also a key player in BonaDent’s decision to grow here. A $750,000 convertible loan from the ESD Upstate Regional Blueprint Fund was used to purchase and install equipment and/or building renovations and site work. The state and local funding provided the needed incentive for the company to expand in Seneca County.

“Empire State Development is proud to have assisted BonaDent Dental Laboratories expand its operations in Seneca County, allowing it to retain and create good jobs in the region,” said Kenneth Adams, Empire State Development president, CEO and commissioner. “BonaDent has been a fixture in the region for more than 60 years and today’s announcement is a clear message that New York State is a premier place for businesses to invest and grow.”

“With the funding that BonaDent has received from NYSEG’s Economic Development Team, we have been able to upgrade a former Wal-Mart facility into one of the premier dental labs in the country. The grants have allowed BonaDent to invest in and provide significant energy efficiency improvements to the building’s electric and natural gas infrastructure,” said Andrew Verkey, BonaDent controller.

“The support that our company received from the Empire State Development Corporation, Seneca County, Town of Seneca Falls and the Seneca County IDA played a vital role in our decision to keep BonaDent’s headquarters here,” Verkey said.

The NYSEG grant is part of the approximately $40 million NYSEG and RG&E plan to invest in economic development in upstate New York through 2013.
